The 13th annual Toledo Antique Street Fair takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Main Street this Sunday, Aug. 7. Antique dealers from around the Northwest sell primitives, glass, pottery, furniture, collectibles, linens and other fine antiques from booths on Main Street, which is closed to traffic for the day.

Some of the more than 30 dealers participating include Fran Yasgar of Salem, who specializes in English china, '30s and '40s glassware, small furniture and vintage jewelry. Fran has been collecting for 30 years, and has recently published a book, "Mason's Vista Ironstone," which will be available at the fair.

Brian Birtley of The Furniture Farm in Eugene will bring a variety of restored antique furniture. Dave and Karen Oetjen of Waldport have been collecting for 30 years. Dave collects and sells old tools, including farming, logging, and kitchen tools. He finds that the tools end up in unusual places, far from the areas in which they were used. He enjoys researching to find out how the tools were used. Karen collects and sells glass, china and silverware. She is fascinated with the pieces which are seldom used today, including sardine, lemon and fish forks and items once used in formal dining. She will also sell a variety of linens, tablecloths, and pressed glass from the 1900's through the 1940's.

Mary Ann Sloan of Toledo collects Wade and American art pottery and oriental antiques. She and her late husband Robert Sloan operated the Main Street Antique Mall in Toledo with Jan Edmondson. Other dealers will be coming from Gresham, West Linn, McMinnville, Brownsville, Grand Ronde, and Portland, as well as Lincoln County.

Crafters offer handmade ukuleles, old-fashioned dolls, beaded jewelry, rag rugs and ironwork. Michael Edge of Toledo makes custom ukuleles, cigar box ukuleles and sells vintage and antique musical instruments. He'll be strumming his instruments near the south deck on the west side of Main. Ann Mills of Otter Rock makes fabric dolls, rabbits and teddy bears, dressed with garments made of vintage fabrics. She also sells vintage linens. Don Clark of Toledo crafts steel into a variety of decorative garden and home items. Meg and Ralph Jones will sell cut and polished geodes, cabochons and slabbed rock. They have been rock hunting in Eastern Oregon, Arizona and Utah for thirty years. Meg incorporates the polished and cut rocks into her hand crafted jewelry. She silversmiths and wire crochets as well as making beaded earrings. Other crafts offered include hand turned bowls made of Northwest woods by Michael Barnes, and resin and glass custom clocks.

A classic car show occupies the north end of the street with vehicles from the early 1900's through the 1970's. Fifteen trophies will be awarded. Registration for the car show begins at 9 am in front of city hall. Jim Tough and Jackie Kauffman are organizing the car show this year. Members of the Bay City Cruisers car club are expected to participate, as well as owners from the Willamette Valley.

Other attractions at the fair include a quilt show at city hall, organized by members of the Toledo Hometown Committee. Quilters from Toledo, either current or past residents are invited to participate each year. Mary Lou Rice, Toni Brodie, Dorothy Ellis, Sharon Deal, Jeri Reed, Betty Huff, Sally Edmondson Blankenship, Mary Warfield, Betty Jones, Linda Anderson, and Isabel Blower will be showing quilts this year. Several antique quilts belonging to Bart Johnson and Jean Bindley will also be displayed.

Frank Jones of Toledo Folk Music Club is organizing a folk music festival, with performers from the local area as well as Portland and Eugene. Dick Weissman, once a member of the Journeymen, plays classic banjo. Rick Bartow plays Delta blues on his resonator guitar, with vocals. Paul Bogaard and Bill Stiffler have adopted the "Sons of Beaches" moniker for their folk rock duo. The name was formerly used for a Newport band of the early 20th century. John Meade and Tony Wright play old-time fiddle and banjo tunes, and Kurt Smith, John Folk and Stacey Smith of "Not Just Smith" entertain with '70's folk ballads. Meryle Korn of Portland plays autoharp and sings the ballads of America. Joe Jordan and Trisha Daniels play contemporary folk guitar. All of the entertainers will join in a Woody Guthrie tribute for the noon hour.

Food booths offer barbecued pork and homemade Italian sausage sandwiches by local restaurant Smokin' Pig, a roast beef dinner by Roseberg caterer Jeff Davis, pizza by the slice and strawberry shortcake by New World Pizza of Toledo, and Bandon Kettle Korn. The Timbers Restaurant, Mickey's Main Street Café, Dancing Bear Bakery and Bay Bistro will also offer meals on Main Street.

Photographer Nancy Lynne of Toledo will offer old style portraits in period clothing to fair goers. Photos may be ordered in the traditional sepia tones or in color.

A heritage railroad equipment display and demonstration will be held at nearby Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society's Heritage Square. The society volunteers will give rides on a restored Gibson crew car and a velocipede, which is similar to a bicycle, built for the railroad. The "Loose Caboose" food concession will be open at the railroad display. There is no admission charge to the fair. Parking is available at the Port of Toledo marina, Toledo Post Office, Toledo Eagles Lodge and on city streets near Main. For information or to pre-register for the car show, call 336-2247 ext. 215 or email
